Early Adolescent Perceptions of the Need for Adults to Know more about them

This study compared perceptions of early adolescents and those of adults related to the need for adults to know more about factors which may have a bearing on how adolescents learn. Two hundred and nineteen, 12 to 14 year olds in grades seven and eight were administered the 25 item questionnaire which was previously used with administrators, teachers and parents of middle school students. Differences between the two groups were observed as were adolescent age-gender variations. Adults perceived a greater need to know more about larger number of factors than did adolescents. Older children and females had higher percentages of perceived need than did younger adolescents and males.
